26 November 2008
The Club Bar, Roundhouse
6.30-8.00pm
Celebrating the Work of high school students involved in exploring cultural diversity and awareness. This publication is inspired by school visits counducted by Arc volunteers throughout the year.
The program provides a platform for high school students and Arc volunteers to discuss issues of cultural identity and understanding, with the high school students using the forums as stimulus for pieces of creative writing. At the end of the 6 week forum (1 x 1 hour session per week) a publication is produced with a piece of each students work represented.
The partnership between the Arc and the Department of Education and Training provides an outstanding opportunity for students studying education to gain experience working in schools and interacting with high school students.
The program provides a minimal commitment training program for volunteers, undertaken prior to commencing the forums, which include modules on cultural awareness, communication, facilitation skills, equity and diversity, mentoring, and group discussions.
