Student Development Committee (SDC)

The Student Development Committee (SDC) is Arc's student body responsible for overseeing the support provided to Arc affiliated Clubs, volunteer programs, courses, grants and relevant student events. Students are elected to represent the interests of Arc Clubs and volunteer programs, as well as COFA. SDC is chaired by the Student Development Committee Convenor, who also sits on the Arc Board.

Andrew Roberts

Andrew Roberts (Convenor)

My name is Andrew Roberts and I am proud to nominate for a position as a club's representative on the SDC.
As a fourth-year student, I have had extensive experience with clubs and societies as well as student life in general. Specifically, I have lots of experience working with and running clubs. In 2010, I was the president of Goldstein College, I am the current treasurer of The Culture Club and have been part of the founding executive to establish three successful clubs in the past three years. I currently work at Arc as a Student Development Officer where I work closely with clubs and I also assist volunteer program coordinators. I believe that Student Development is one of the most important, inclusive and actively engaging aspects of Arc and I would love the opportunity to work to improve and develop this in any way I can!

Hey, my name is Ari Gorney and I am the Clubs Representative on the SDC (Student Development Committee) for 2013. I am a fourth year Software Engineering and Mathematics Student. Clubs and Societies has the amazing ability to allow students to grow as human beings through mutual connections of interest as well as develop students by sharing and learning experiences through the diverse population of UNSW and therefore improving oneself as a person. Student Development encapsulates all of these aspects which is something that I am extremely passionate about and why I wanted be the Clubs Representative on the SDC. If you have any questions or suggestions on ways to improve how clubs and societies are run, please don't hesitate to contact me at:

Hi! I'm a 1st year BSc student, and I've been involved in many clubs and volunteer programs run by Arc this past semester, and would love to represent your interests on the SDC. I'm currently the newly elected President of Society of Evangelical Christian Students, and am a member of many more. I am also a Team Leader in the Shack Tutoring Program, and a Mentor in Mosaic Fusion Forums. I also help run a youth group and am a prominent member of my local church and choir. I'm also an international student from Taiwan, and enjoy meeting new people, so if you have any queries you're more than welcome to come find me! I believe due to my varied experiences that I can best represent all  of you and make your views and issues heard at a board level, to affect the way Student Development runs Clubs and Societies.

Volunteer Programs Student Representatives:

Geofrey Zhang

Hi, I'm a 4th year BComm/LLB  student, and I'm currently serving my 2nd term on the SDC, because the experiences I gained last year helping plan the overall strategic direction of Student Development, and managing clubs and volunteer programs, were full of interesting moments and amazing people. I've done years of Yellow Shirts, Contact, Volunteer Army, Shack Tutoring, Mosaic Forums and peer mentoring programs, plus I've previously coordinated 2 volunteer programs for Arc. I'm Treasurer of Lawsoc and Treasurer of UNIT UNSW, while being involved in many other clubs. I'm also a black belt with UNSW Taekwondo Club, and have been selected to represent UNSW at the Australian University Games twice previously.

As you can see I've been heavily involved in all aspects of student life here at UNSW and well-qualified to represent your interests. I'm very approachable so contact me anytime with any issues or if you just want to chat to someone. Contact me at g.zhang@arc.unsw.edu.au

The Volunteer Programs provided and supported by UNSW afford incredible opportunities for students to actively participate in improving both the university and wider community. Having been an active member of such programs, including Yellow Shirts, I feel that if elected to this committee I would be well placed to represent the views and interests of Arc's many Volunteer Programs. The SDC is responsible for making many crucial decisions concerning the allocation of resources and support to the different Arc affiliated clubs and Volunteer programs. My membership of other UNSW clubs such as the Debating Society gives me a well-rounded understanding of the concerns which the entire SDC committee acts to represent. It is important that the Volunteer Programs Representative is able to provide a strong voice on the SDC. As the Volunteer Programs Representative I will be that strong voice.
