Arc Board Welcomes 4 New Student Directors

The completion of Arc Board elections last week heralds the announcement of 4 new student directors of the peak UNSW student body. The newly students elected are: Jia Wang (Media), Lehan Zhang (Engineering/ Commerce), Sahana Nandakumar (Medicine) and Leo Shaw-Voysey (City Planning).

It’s self-evident that these students, elected by their peers represent a rich cross-section of student experiences at UNSW. They come from a range of ethno-cultural backgrounds and are undertaking a breadth of UNSW degrees between them.

These 4 incumbents will be replacing outgoing Arc Board Directors: Samuel Westley (Commerce/ Law), Mia Carey (Arts/ Fine Arts) and Jason Zabakly (Arts/ Education) and Chair of the Arc Board Nadhirah Daud (Arts/ Law). Nadhirah was grateful to her outgoing executive and excited for the fresh starters.

“I am so proud of my fellow Board Directors for what we have achieved in the last 12 months – we have strived for better services, more inclusion and innovative ways to make UNSW more vibrant. The incoming Arc Board Directors are all exceptionally passionate UNSW students who will continue to ensure that Arc delivers the best possible student experience.”

The new student directors will attend their first monthly Board Meeting in June where they will begin to steer the strategic decisions of Arc@UNSW.

Student directors comprise 10 out of the 15 positions on the Arc Board and their elections are in blocks of 4 on alternating 2-year cycles, with the remaining student positions filled by the SRC President and PGC President for the duration of their terms. 10 of the Arc Board positions are current held by women.
