Now in its 16th year, the Kudos Emerging Artist + Designer Award seeks to recognise, nurture and support innovation and excellence across all disciplines at UNSW Art & Design.

This award aims to promote excellence in visual art and design at UNSW, to encourage experimentation and development of process, material and concept, to display UNSW Art and Design to the broader community and to nurture creative activity and community within the Paddington campus of UNSW.

All UNSW Art & Design students working in any medium are eligible to enter. Entry is free for Arc members, and Arc membership is free!

Exhiibtion continues 23 August - 9 September 2017.

Information about Entering

You are required to drop off your artworks on Thursday 10 &  Friday 11 August 2017. Once you have completed this form please submit the physical artwork to the Arc Office. The Arc Office is on the UNSW Art & Design Campus - Ground Floor, D Block, UNSW Art & Design, Greens Rd Paddington NSW 2021. The office will accept physical submissions Thursday 10 - Friday 11 August, 10am-4pm.

Your work will be judged for preselection into the award - not all entries are automatically accepted into the award. The Kudos Committee will select approximately 45 artworks to be exhibited & considered for the award. 

You will be informed on Friday 19 August via email if you are successful and you will be required to be available to install your work on Monday 21 August at Kudos Gallery.

Submitting your artwork

Video works must be submitted on a USB stick for us to view on a computer - if we cannot play the file then your entry is invalid - it is recommended you make your file a h.264 (MP4) video.

Performance works can be submitted - please provide photo documentation or video documentation of your performance for us to view. Video are to be submitted in the same format as stated above.

All objects and paintings must be wrapped and protected. If your work has many parts or is more complex than just a picture, please provide photo documentation (printed and attached to artwork) and clear instructions of how it goes together.

WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCOMMODATE PROJECTIONS or WORKS THAT NEED TO BE SUSPENDED DUE TO THE HIGH NUMBER OF ARTWORKS IN THE EXHIBITION.

YOU MUST PROVIDE ALL NECESSARY EQUIPMENT TO INSTALL YOUR ARTWORK WITH YOUR ENTRY. Examples include; shelving, hooks, plinths etc.

WORKS THAT REQUIRE TV's should be booked once you are confirmed as a finalist for the length of the Kudos Award (22 August - 9 September).

Terms and Conditions

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

1. Entrants must be enrolled students at UNSW ART & DESIGN in 2016. All areas of study are encouraged to enter.

2. Entry is free AND OPEN TO Arc members ONLY. (Arc membership is free www.arc.unsw.edu.au)

3. Entries can be in any medium AND ANY SIZE (PLEASE BE SENSIBLE WITH THE SIZE OF YOUR ENTRY).

4. The 2016 Kudos Emerging Artist and Designer Award is non-acquisitive.

5. Collaborative work will be accepted. All work must be the original work and concept of the artist/s it is attributed to. 

6. Up to two works may be entered by each entrant/collective.

8. WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCOMMODATE PROJECTIONS 

9. All work must be clearly labelled with the entrant’s/s’ name and the title of the work. Any special installation specifications must be clearly presented with the entry. ** PLEASE NOTE THE ARTIST/DESIGNER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HIRE OF ANY EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR INSTALL OF WORKS 

10. Though special care will be taken when handling entries, no responsibility will be taken for loss or damage of artwork. Entrants must provide their own insurance if required.  

11. Entrants must observe the delivery and collection dates outlined in this document. Arc has limited storage and cannot guarantee safe storage before or after the Award exhibition.

12. Work selected for exhibition can be offered for sale with 25% of the sale amount retained by Arc. Sale price must include GST if registered with ABN. 

13. All works accepted into the exhibition will be installed by the Kudos Gallery TEAM. (Special requirements will be considered but final decision will be with KUDOS GALLERY).

14. All finalists whose work is exhibited will be expected to fulfill a shift in the gallery minding roster. The exhibition is open for ONE week, 11am - 6pm Wednesday to Friday and  11am - 4pm Saturday.

15. Submission of entry form automatically constitutes entrants’ acceptance of all Terms and Conditions.

Finalists will be announced. Entrants not selected for final judging and exhibition will be required to collect their work from the Arc office before

21 AUGUST

Installation of finalists’ works at Kudos Gallery. All finalists are required to commit to a shift in the gallery minding roster by today, email kudos@arc.unsw.edu.au

22 AUGUST

Judging of finalists BY EXTERNAL PANEL: 

OPENING + AWARDS PRESENTATION at Kudos Gallery 5-7pm

9 SEPTEMBER

The KUDOS award exhibition closes at 4pm

11 SEPTEMBER

Exhibition finalists are required to collect their work from Kudos Gallery 9 - 11am. Work/s not collected will be disposed of as deem fit by Arc
