R U OK? Day aims to “inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with people around them and support anyone struggling with life.”

Something as simple as a smile, a friendly face and a conversation has the power to change and save a life.

The theme for R U OK? Day in 2016 was CONNECTION. Going beyond simply starting conversations and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health, our focus is on encouraging students to not only start a connection through a conversation and asking ‘R U OK?’ but also maintaining the connection, reconnecting and thinking about health and well being holistically.

Conversation Corner

Sometimes all it takes is a conversation to save a life. The conversation corner provided the perfect opportunity for conversations to take place in a relaxed, comfortable and safe space.

Post Secret & R U OK? Wall

Holding in a secret and dwelling on it can have negative effects - it may increase stress and have adverse impacts on your health. Hundreds of secrets were written down and stuck to the wall. Doing so lifted the weight off many shoulders, helped thoughts

Letter Writing

With the busy lifestyles we all lead, maintaining connections can be a struggle. We're went old school and gave students the opportunity to write letters, to help them reconnect with a family member or friend.

Mental Health Workshop

A workshop aimed at providing you with techniques and tools when discussing and communicating about mental health to friends.

Self Care Cards

The friendly volunteers handed out cards encouraging students to treat them selves! During the emergency briefing before a plane takes off we're always instructed to put on our own oxygen masks and ensure we can breathe first before helping others out.

At 1:15pm on the Quad, a huge formation of people supporting mental health created the 'R U OK?' letters for an aerial photo to show support for the importance of mental health and connections.

Ask R U OK? Everyday

Conversations need to happen every day. Got a niggling feeling that someone you know or care about it isn’t behaving as they normally would? Perhaps they seem out of sorts? Or they’re just not themselves. Trust that gut instinct and act on it.
