Ambassadors

The Arc PGC Ambassador and Course Co-ordinator of the Year Award will celebrate and recognise the outstanding contributions of Master’s students and Course Co-ordinators. Many Master’s students and Course Co-ordinators have been great ambassadors and volunteers for UNSW, providing a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere for all students and staff. The Postgraduate Council is proud to celebrate the achievements of these outstanding students. Awards will be presented to successfully nominated students by the DVCA at a virtual ceremony on 30th September 2021. All awardees will be featured on Arc Newsletter and PGC Websites.

Ambassador of the Year Award

PGC Ambassador Award Background

The PGC Ambassador Award recognises Masters’ students who have helped create a lively study environment and supportive social atmosphere among their peers and broader UNSW community. This award acknowledges students who have contributed immensely to the enhancement of UNSW postgraduate student’s experience both in academia, social, health and wellbeing.

The award consists of two categories:

Outstanding PGC Ambassador Award – to be given to outstanding nominated students
PGC Ambassador Award – to be given to the top nominated students

Eligibility:

Current UNSW postgraduate student or UNSW staff may nominate an Ambassador
Ambassadors need to be Masters students who have completed at least 2 terms of study at UNSW and who have not received their testamur
Postgraduates studying a JD degree are eligible
Each nomination must be seconded by another current postgraduate student or staff from their respective School

Not be an elected member of the PGC
If awarded, the awardee must submit a headshot, 150-word biography and shoot a 2-minute video with PGC
Self-nominations are allowed; however, self-nominees must obtain a letter of support from a relevant staff member, e.g. their Postgraduate Coordinator, Head of School, Society executive.
You are required to submit at least 1 letter of support for each nomination, irrespective of whether it is a self nomination or not.

Nominations have been extended until 11:59pm on 10th September 2021. Please direct all queries to the PGC Coursework Office (pgccoursework@arc.unsw.edu.au).

All applicants will also have the opportunity to participate in an exclusive Mentorship Program organised by the UNSW Postgraduate Council between September 23-24.

Course Co-ordinator of the Year Award

PGC Course Co-Ordinator Award

The PGC Course Co-ordinator Award aims to recognise Course Co-ordinators who have displayed exemplary administrative efforts beyond their minimum requirement and to acknowledge their efforts in taking care of their students. The PGC Coordinator’s Award acknowledges staff members across all schools and faculties of UNSW.

Note: Here, course coordinator can be any UNSW Academic staff member who is not a UNSW enrolled student, and who has co-ordinated and/or taught a postgraduate course in 2021. Course Coordinators of JD programs are also eligible.

The award consists of two categories:

Outstanding Co-ordinator Award – to be given to outstanding nominated Course Co-ordinators

Course Co-ordinator Award – to be given to top nominated Course Co-ordinators

Eligibility:

Current UNSW postgraduate student or UNSW staff may nominate a Course Co-ordinator
Each nomination must be seconded by another current postgraduate student or staff from their respective School

Current elected members of Postgraduate Council are ineligible to nominate their Course Co-ordinators

Every month, this award acknowledges students who have contributed immensely to the enhancement of UNSW postgraduate student’s experience both in academia, social, health and wellbeing. Awardees will be featured in Arc PGC Newsletter and PGC Websites

Eligibility criteria:

Must be a current UNSW postgraduate student
Past winners are ineligible to apply
Current elected members of Postgraduate Council are ineligible
Students can nominate themselves or be nominated by either a UNSW student or staff member

Selection criteria:

Demonstrated active involvement in improving the experience of UNSW postgraduate students
Demonstrated high level of support to PGC-related events
Demonstrated significant contributions to promoting a positive social, health and wellbeing culture

Winners will be notified by email and information will be published through social media. If awarded, the awardee must submit a headshot, 150-word biography and shoot a 2-minute video with PGC. The deadline to apply is February 12th 11:59pm.

PGC Committees

The Postgraduate Council is proud to announce the formation of 11 committees for postgraduates who wish to experience first-hand what it is like at the Council, contribute to the delivery of PGC events, and gain valuable leadership experience.

All committee members are automatically enrolled in the inaugural PGC Ambassadors Program which will consist of monthly leadership and training workshops and a completion certificate at the end of the year. Students who complete 20 or more hours will be eligible for recommendation for AHEGS recognition.

Duties and responsibilities:

Actively participate in meetings, discussions and events relevant to the chosen committee
Assist the committee Chairs in administration, planning, and marketing
Support the work of the Postgraduate Council as a student ambassador
Submit a 300-word reflection report at the end of every Term detailing your experiences and outcomes achieved
