Got some extra bits and pieces lying around?

Give them a second life by donating to the Second Life Hub - Arc’s on-campus reuse initiative! We accept a wide range of good-quality items that deserve another chance to be used and loved by others.

We’ve grown from just stationery to now accepting all kinds of everyday essentials - from kitchenware to small appliances and more. Your donations help us reduce waste and keep our space accessible to everyone.

What can I donate?

We accept everyday essentials that are practical, functional, safe to handle and still in great condition. Basically, if it’s something you’d feel happy passing on to a friend, it’s probably a good fit!

Here's what we love to see:

  • Living essentials (e.g. lamps, storage tubs, laundry baskets, mini fans, coat hangers)
  • Kitchen basics (e.g. mugs, plates, cutlery, containers, basic cooking tools)
  • Small appliances (e.g. kettles, toasters, rice cookers)
  • Stationery & desk gear (e.g. notebooks, pens, folders, organisers)

Our accepted items list may change over time depending on stock levels and capacity, so it’s always best to check this page before donating. (Last updated: see below!)

What can't I donate?

As much as we’d love to take everything, some items just aren’t the right fit - and managing unsuitable donations can take up a lot of our volunteer time and resources. Plus, there are certain items we can’t accept due to safety and regulations.

So before you donate, please check the list below. If it’s on here, it’s a no-go - and we really appreciate you helping us keep the Hub safe, manageable, and running smoothly!

Items unsuitable for donation

  • Ring binders / lever arch folders (we’re overstocked!)
  • Clothing (including children’s clothing)
  • Bric-a-brac items
  • Children’s toys and items (e.g. cots, high chairs, strollers)
  • Helmets and car seats
  • Medical or mobility aids
  • Safety gear
  • Large or bulky items (e.g. stools, large lamps, flat-pack furniture)
  • Hazardous or chemical goods
  • Items with offensive or inappropriate slogans or imagery

For items like clothing and children’s toys, you could try donating to a local op shop or listing them on Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree or eBay. For clothing, you can also use the SRC Clothing Donation Bins on campus - the closest one to Arc Reception is just next to the Clubs Office!

For everything else, especially safety, medical or bulky items, it’s best to check local council guidelines or disposal programs to ensure they’re handled responsibly.

Not sure if we'll take it?

No stress - just submit a donation form with a quick description and photo. We’ll get back to you within 72 hours to confirm whether we can accept it and let you know what happens next.

How do I submit a donation request?

To help us manage donations smoothly, we kindly ask that all donations go through our form first.

  • Fill out the form with item info and a photo (linked below!)
  • Wait for our reply (within 72 hours)
  • If accepted, we’ll outline next steps to have your donation dropped of or posted to us! Please note due to work health and safety, we are unable to pick up donations.

Please do not bring donations directly to the Arc Reception or the centre without completing the form and receiving confirmation. Unapproved drop-offs may not be accepted, and we may not have space or staff available to process them safely.

This process helps us ensure we’re only accepting items we can responsibly use and redistribute.
