Here at the Roundhouse, we’re a diverse group that supports anyone from different backgrounds and differences and with Sydney Mardi Gras at the forefront, here are some tips to make your event Queer-Friendly with us today!
Working out the logistics of an event isn’t always easy, especially when picking out a venue that tailors their experience to you. At the Roundhouse, we pride ourselves on training all our staff with a zero-tolerance policy for any discrimination against the LGBTIQA+ community so you can be assured that your event can be made queer-friendly and welcoming. Training your facilitators and hosts are also a plus, which can create meaningful interactions. This may also include establishing a non-discrimination statement to show inclusivity and extra opt-out options and confidentiality to ensure the security and safety of your attendees and their privacy.
Another tip to make your event queer-friendly is always setting the stage for inclusivity! Having a welcome and open space that is safe and free of judgement will encourage discussion and engagement from your audience and attendees (and not as an extra add-on). Adding these details really gets to show the care and attention you’ve put into your event, being the most diverse and welcoming as possible. This should be alongside constructing your own big idea, where your alignment with the community will be the biggest thing.
After you have successfully concluded your queer-friendly event, don’t forget to follow up and ask for feedback! Being aware of the gaps for improvement and listening to your audience is always important and who knows, maybe this feedback may stem a bigger and better idea!
