I’ve had some great burgers from here. However, the first time I went I didn’t realise that all the fillings were ‘fake meat’. I ordered the ‘Pulled Pork’ burger, and when I started eating it I thought there was something terribly wrong with it. Turns out it was actually made of jackfruit.

I have since ordered this same burg, and been super impressed. I think the key here is not expecting your fake meat to taste like real meat, and just enjoying the flavours of the burger for what they are.

These guys are on the list because their gluten free buns are really good, and I like their innovative take on classic burgers.

Coogee, Bondi and Cronulla

I’m not usually a fan of places that just replace the bun with lettuce and pass it off as a legitimate gluten free version…

But the fillings of these burgers are so bloody delicious, Milky Lane just have to be on this list. I believe they’ve recently added a gluten free bun to their menu, but as the burgers are so rich, the lettuce actually adds quite a fresh crunch.

Plus, if you eat in-store, you get to see all of their really cool artwork, and most likely have someone DJ your dinner. It doesn’t get much better than that for a burger experience.

Randwick and Coogee

This is a super interesting joint with unique flavours. They do ten different burgers, each based on different nationalities and cuisines. You can get the greasy American burger with double cheese and double bacon, a Greek burger with lamb and feta, or even a Chinese inspired dumpling burger with a pork and prawn patty.

In true millennial style, I’m a stickler for avo and will pay good money to add it onto quite literally anything. So my favourite here is their Japanese burger, which is pretty much avo and pulled pork. It is damnnnn good.

Cronulla

This burger place is up and coming but you should definitely make the trek to the shire for this!

Everything from their decor, to their plating to their logo screams fresh and hip. I personally love these guys, and one thing that’s pushed them to the top of the list is the fact that EVERYTHING ON THEIR MENU IS GF, even their chicken nuggets (they’re done in rice flour)! As a former Macca’s chicken nugget lover (still love them, they just don’t love me), I am always excited by the prospect of being able to indulge in a burger, chips AND nuggets and not pay for it for a week.

1. Grill'd

LEGIT everywhere

These guys are the bomb.com! So many of their burgers use gluten free fillings, so you’re not trawling through the menu trying to find ingredients you can eat. Plus, there are not only one but two GF buns. Their gluten free bun is good, BUT the real hero is actually their Low-carb super bun. It’s super healthy, super thin and just the all-round greatest addition to a burger. You can still have the taste of bread without the gluten or the carbs - it’s a win-win.

Grill’d is also brought to the top of the list because they are legitimately everywhere. This means that you generally won’t have to go further than 15 mins to get a top notch GF burg.

This week, look no further than UNSW for your gluten free burger needs. Head to the Roundhouse to celebrate Burgerfest! Their Chipotle Chicken Burger comes as a gluten-free option, so you can get a great feed close to home.
