Our mission is to unite all UNSW students, staff, alumni and the local community to do good and Phil' good.
Phil' raises money to help sick kids. The funds go to the Child Life and Music Therapy at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick. The therapists use play and music to help hospitalised babies, kids and teens manage pain, understand medical procedures and make sure they don’t miss out on having a fun childhood! They empower sick children by;
- Normalising the hospital environment
- Reducing anxiety and promoting self-esteem
- Providing education and support to children, and their families
The 2018 Phil’ campaign was launched in O-Week with fundraising commencing in early February with aim of raising $85,000. Across session 1, several fundraising initiatives were very successful with the Phil’ Gala night raising over $30,000. The end of year target was adjusted to $100,000 in June. Student volunteers did weekly fundraising activities with bake sales, barbeques and raffles. Phil’ also entered teams in the Pedal4kids cycling event and the City2Surf fun run.
Heading into the Fun-A-Thon in September the $100,000 target was reached so we created a new aim is to raise $138,800. Raising $138,800 this year means that we will have raised over a quarter of a million dollars since Phil’s inception in 2016. This target was reached before the 24hr Fun-A-Thon began. The 24 hr Fun-A-Thon was held on Thur 11 Oct – Fri 12 Oct, with 32 teams competing. The teams were made up of students from clubs and societies, colleges, volunteer groups, international students, first years and post graduates. The event was an amazing success that raised tens of thousands of dollars. The staff of the Child Life & Music Therapy Team were active participants during all of Phil' fundraising events.
We currently have raised over $160K this year and money continues to be donated!
