History and Mission

The Postgraduate Council (PGC) was established by the Arc Board in 2011 to improve representation and community for postgraduate students at UNSW. Run by students for students, the Council consists of elected Office Bearers and Committee Liaisons who chair and appoint members to a Research Committee, Educational Committee, International Student Engagement Committee, and an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee. Together, these students uphold the core PGC mission of facilitating a positive postgraduate experience in areas of advocacy, engagement, and support.

Advocacy

  • Amplifying the desires of the postgraduate voice at different University levels.

  • Strengthening the student voice by connecting student bodies within UNSW, such as Student Representative Council, Academic Board, and Arc Board.

Engagement

  • Organising flagship university-wide events that foster community building, celebrate student achievements, and encourage a diverse social atmosphere.
  • Organising professional development events that educate postgraduates on entering the job market and guide their transition from postgraduate student to employee.

Support

  • Offering a first point-of-contact for postgraduates with coursework and research inquiries.
  • Promoting the diversity and inclusion of all postgraduate students.
  • Connecting postgraduate students with UNSW well-being services.
