The Asylum Seekers Centre supports asylum seekers and refugees in Sydney through community lunches, advocacy, and direct support services.
Join Volunteers United and the Asylum Seekers Centre for a meaningful afternoon preparing and serving lunch to asylum seekers and refugees. You'll help provide nourishment, connection, and a welcoming space for a vulnerable community rebuilding their lives in Australia. This is direct human connection - your presence and care matter as much as the meal itself.
What you'll be doing:
- Preparing lunch according to ASC dietary guidelines and requirements
- Serving lunch to community members
- Setting up and cleaning up the lunch space
- Connecting with and supporting asylum seekers and refugees
Shift Details
Location: Asylum Seekers Centre, 43 Bedford Street, Newtown
Date: Friday, 17th July
Volunteer shift: 11:00 am–2:00 pm
Volunteers needed: 8
WhatsApp community: TBA
Schedule:
- 11:30 am - Arrival and setup (Strict time)
- 12:30 pm - Lunch service
- 12:50 pm - Takeaway distribution
- 1:15 pm onwards - Cleanup
Important Requirements:
- All volunteers must complete the ASC Volunteer Registration Form before attending (https://secure.asylumseekersce...)
- All volunteers must complete a 10-15 minute Orientation Session about ASC and the community we support (https://elearning.easygenerato...)
- At least one team member must provide a valid Working With Children Check
- Read the ASC Code of Conduct and Lunch Guidelines carefully before your session
- Follow all dietary requirements and guidelines when preparing lunch
