Postgraduate Council

The mission of the Postgraduate Council (PGC) is to provide information, support, representation and advice on issues that affect postgraduate students at UNSW and the wider postgraduate student population.

The PGC liaises with UNSW and external parties in order to represent and campaign for postgraduate students.

We are dedicated to improving university life for all postgraduate students including:

  • mature age students
  • students with partners and children
  • international students
  • research students and coursework students

Postgrad students have exclusive access to our Postgrad Lounge in the Arc Precinct, which features couches, a fridge, lockers, games and more.

We also want to provide you with opportunities to take a break from study and get social, so look out for events like wine and cheese nights, balls, and board games nights on our Facebook page.

Message from President:

Happy New Year and welcome back to all new and returning UNSW students for the 2021 Academic Session. I hope you had a relaxing holiday break in these unprecedented and challenging times and you are ready for a new academic calendar year. As PGC President, l would like to encourage you to take advantage of the numerous support and services that PGC has to offer as well as many events to be hosted by all Office Bearers throughout the 3 terms to help you connect with friends and colleagues.

We hope all students are keeping safe, and we understand that this is a tough time for many students especially International students feeling increasingly isolated and facing financial pressures. Let’s carry-out our activities as normally as we can, but always remember to adhere strictly to COVIDsafe rules. PGC will work with Arc and UNSW administration to provide you with all the necessary support you need at this time.

PGC will be unpacking great programs and initiatives for your benefits, some of which includes Arc PGC Ambassador and Course Coordinator Award 2021, Ambassador of the Month, Pitch your Research Competition and different PGC Committees which will give you the opportunity to serve. Participating in extra-curricular activities while at UNSW has a great impact on student experience as well as career benefits, so be encouraged to take part in this opportunity.

Representing your interest is at the heart of this year’s PGC because we want to see change and bring a positive impact during your time at UNSW.

Please always remember that PGC is here to support and help you, stay safe and don’t hesitate to contact us. Feel Free to contact our Health and Wellness Committee if you are feeling lonely and isolated, you can reach out and speak to any of the Postgraduate Council and ex-officio members. Keep checking our website and social media handles for activities to get yourself busy

PGC is confident and hopeful that our connected, strong, excellent and vibrant UNSW Postgraduate Community will always win.

I wish you a productive academic year.

Jerry Offor, PGC President

Welcome to PGC 2021!

The UNSW Postgraduate Council for 2021 is excited to welcome all returning and new UNSW postgraduate students into 2021.

For postgraduate students located overseas, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic and look forward to when borders can be reopened for your safe return.

As we leave behind a rather interesting year that has necessitated changes to our daily lifestyles, we are optimistic about the year that lies ahead of us. The Postgraduate Council hopes to bring new and exciting events for the year that will bring back social interactions that we’ve so longed for. For example, keep an eye out for PGC’s Ambassador of the Month awards, monthly free BBQs (pending COVID-19 advice), professional Q & A’s and seminars, as well as online game nights!

The current Postgraduate Council is also passionate about increasing the level of transparency between the operations of PGC and the student community. As such, the Postgraduate Council is establishing non-executive committees for any postgraduates who’d like to experience first-hand what it is like to work at the council, contribute to the delivery of PGC events, and gain valuable leadership experience.

In the meantime, we look forward to bringing you monthly newsletters that will include all key updates and upcoming PGC events.

See you soon!
