Societies to Join during lockdown

New to UNSW or looking for a society to join? Here's a list of societies with online activities and socials to get you through lockdown!

UNSW Tea and Coffee Society

UNSW Tea and Coffee Society

UNSW Tea and Coffee Society is a thriving hub of tea and coffee enthusiasts! They regularly host a range of tea & coffee focused events which are a great way to meet new people and establish lifelong friendships with those who hold similar interests.

On their discord, they hold regular games nights from 7-9pm on Sundays, playing stuff like Gartic, Covidopoly and Mafia. If that's not your thing, the discord acts as an open-room server, where people sometimes practice music, draw, have fancy dress-ups, or you even can pop onto the main channel and bait someone to chat with you.

If you need a good society to help you study, they'll also be holding group study sessions through Term 3, so you can find some great study mates and make a productive study group!

UNSW Bookworm Society

UNSW Bookworm Society

Bookworm Society (BookSoc) is a society dedicated to talking about, encouraging, and improving the experience of reading.

The two main activities are Can't Talk Now I'm Reading (CTNIR) and book discussion.

CTNIR is a weekly activity and is a time for socialisation or a dedicated time slot for reading. Book discussion is held three times a term starting from week 1 with each session three weeks after the last. The book for discussion is voted on by club members from suggestions provided by anyone. Discussion of the book is pretty casual and goes for less than an hour, inevitably followed by more general conversation and is a great chance to make new friends!

UNSW LoLSoc

UNSW LoLSoc

UNSW LoLSoc is a community which aims to provide an active casual and competitive gaming scene within our university and on a broader scale throughout Sydney.

Every second week LoLSoc holds 'Friendly Fridays' where players are placed in custom lobbies to mess around on the rift after a long week. They also hold watch parties to support the UNSW LoL team for things like UniGames and Intravarsity tournaments. There's giveaways, study help and more memes than you can shake a stick at on the server, so hop onto the discord if you're interested!

UNSW Puzzle Society

UNSW Puzzle Society

UNSW Puzzle Society is a hobby society for people who like puzzles, riddles, escape rooms, games, and all other forms of brain teaser.

Their community and discord server is really active, brought together by a strong interest in puzzles. They're very casual and also enjoy sharing other interests (e.g. movies, games, chess).

The major events they hold provide opportunities for people to enjoy puzzle activities with friends, whether it be casually or competitively. They have a discord server where they hold weekly online activities for anyone to join. These include:

Original puzzle content every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for anyone to attempt casually or competitively.

A social online session every Wednesday from 3-6pm for casual puzzling, games, or just hanging out.
