What's Changing with Trimester?

Terms, Trimesters, UNSW3+ ... whichever way you say it, 2019 is bringing a lot of changes.

2019 Changes to Academic Standing

What’s changed?

From Term 1 2019, there will no longer be “provisional” suspension or exclusion.

Prior to 2019, provisional suspension or exclusion was assigned in Semester 1 of each year, giving students an opportunity to improve their standing in Semester 2. Students were then suspended or excluded at the end of Semester 2 (where academic standing did not revert back to probation or improve to a satisfactory level).

However, academic standing will now be calculated at the end of each term. Students who are suspended or excluded will still have an opportunity to appeal, but unlike previous years appeals will be decided after the next Term has already started.

NOTE: provisional suspension and/or exclusion still applies to students enrolled at UNSW Canberra

The rules for academic standing differ between undergrads and postgrads. You can read more about the changes to academic standing here.

What does this mean for you?

Do not ignore problems! It is now much quicker to be suspended or excluded so if you’re struggling to pass a course (or all of them) get help …
