UNSWeetened Literary Journal

'You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.' Said my best friend, C. S Lewis’ as we sat in the wardrobe.

Since 1998 the UNSWeetened Literary Journal has showcased UNSW’s creative writing talents.

Published annually since way back in 1998, the Journal features both poetry and prose from  students from a diverse and eclectic mix of degrees and writing styles. Not only is it a great way to get published but it is judged by the biggest writers in the Sydney writing scene and has firmly established itself as one of the best student literary prizes and publications in Sydney.

Whether you're a contributor, critic, or a fan, one of the social highlights of the year is the UNSWeetened Literary Journal Launch Party. Like Truman Capote's infamous Black and White Ball, the Launch Party is an extravaganza involving art, music and free food. Keep an eye out on Facebook or in Blitz for details about the event.

How can I get my hands on a copy?

UNSWeetened is published annually - pick up a copy from Arc Reception today! The 2017 edition of UNSWeetened will be launched on 24 August at the UNSW Bookshop as part of Artsweek. Keep an eye on this page and on the Arc Facebook page for more details

Are you the voice of our generation?

Students from all faculties are invited to take a break from essay writing and submit an original piece to this annual publication.

Submit your best poetry and short fiction, and you could be one of the select few to be published in the UNSWeetened Literary Journal. It looks great on your resume and the UNSWeetened Literary Journal Launch Party is always a fantastic event!

If writing’s not your thing, we also look for talented illustrators, designers and social media and promotion individuals to help make this amazing publication happen.

Meet Your 2017 Unsweetened Literary Journal Coordinator

I am Hayoosh and I have the pleasure to be this year’s Coordinator; currently I am enrolled in the Master of Development Studies program with special reference to Refugees and Forced Migrations.

I grew up down the rabbit hole with Alice, fought alongside Harry against Voldemort, had my first love with Mr. Darcy, cried my heart out during the long times of War and Peace and became a writer with Bilbo Baggins on his grand adventures.

UNSWeetened has the unique space and opportunity for new writers who may be shy of their masterpieces; it is a platform to connect and grow as future J.K. Rowlings. It also provides editing, creative writing, documenting trainings for anyone & everyone.

If this sounds like you, volunteer with us, write for and with us.

Coffee. Write. Repeat.
