On February 16th 2026, UNSWeetened Coordinator Annabella Luu facilitated ‘The Gift of Writing’ workshop. In this generative writing workshop, UNSW students (some, first-time writers) responded to a range of texts and prompts to create hand-written letters to their loved ones. Participants were selected to receive personalized feedback to develop their pieces for publication with Blitz UNSW. 

Sydney, 16/02/2026 

Dear partner,  

We are 5,000 kilometres in distance 

Yet I still write to reach you.  

 

Dear darling, 

Sometimes you dress like a basketball player with a one-pack belly.  

Many times I see your shining, unperfect almond eyes. 

Many days you snore beautifully, while I sleep soundly. 

And I always fall for all of it. All of you.  

 

Dear love,  

Crying over our decision is not a sin,  

Because it is not an easy journey for us.  

 

May you and I always be healthy, happy,  

And grateful for anything made possible 

By clicking fingers on phone,  

Five minutes before we close a day.  

 

Bebep,  

Many thanks for those efforts. 

Tons of thanks for your existence. 

Your gentle - kind - pure heart.   

 

May one day we prepare omelettes for breakfast 

At the same table, 

And have tofu for dinner  

Together, 

 

For many, many, many days,  

I'm going to love us,  

Fully, anywhere, and always.

Nabila Fadiyana Husin, a 30-year-old student from Indonesia, is currently pursuing a Masters of Property and Development at UNSW. She often finds escape through free-writing and expressing her thoughts in lines of poetry. 

 

About the Piece:

I wrote this poem for my husband, who is currently abroad. This workshop was amazing! It touched my feelings and gave me techniques to express the emotions inside me. Even more surprisingly, I felt so alive in the middle of a three-hour chain of words. 🙂
