On February 16th 2026, UNSWeetened Coordinator Annabella Luu faciliated ‘The Gift of Writing Workshop.’ In this generative writing workshop, UNSW students responded to a range of texts and prompts to create hand-written letters to their loved ones. Participants were selected to receive personalized feedback to develop their pieces for publication with Blitz UNSW. 

Tug of War 

We play tug of war: 

 

pull              lean 

 

 grip           topple 


 

heave. 

 

You mould your palms like a vessel. 

Something so crafted 

yet 

free. 

 

You flail around like an asteroid - 

ready to hit Earth. 

A destructive force 

 

so  

calm, 

dignified, 

yet 

turbulent. 

 

I push you around. 

I twirl you. 

I spin you around. 

Like nausea is a cure for boredom. 

 

You scream louder for more. 

Your giggles, 

clouding the vast room: 

 

narrowing 

then exploding, 

like a beating heart. 

 

We still play tug of war in my mind. 

 

pull              lean 

 

 grip           topple 


heave. 

 

Maybe until next time, 

I will twirl your glee around, 

letting it 

uncoil, 

unknot, 

then loosen 

between us. 

About the Author: 

Anagha Abhi is a 19-year-old Indian Australian writer, slam and performance poet. She is a Bachelor of Arts student, majoring in Creative Writing, minoring in Art History and Theory, and Fashion and Textiles. Currently, she is a writer for Blitz and an editor at UNSWeetened. 

About the Piece: 

“I wrote this poem about my little cousin who lives in India, and I haven’t seen him for a few years. I found the workshop through Instagram. I had already been writing poetry, so I thought it would be a fun opportunity to meet like-minded people (and I did!).”
