SPRING STYLE GUIDE | NEW LOOKS & REVELATIONS

BY Gillian Jansz

Spring can be hard to shop for, but with the help of trend forecasting and a few transeasonal wardrobe pieces, you’ll be good to go for the warmer months!

1. High energy jungle prints to channel the psychotropical dreamscape taking next season by storm.

All-over Print & Multi-directional Lines – Jungle Prints + Chevron

Vibrant colours meet architectural lines this season to create an urban luxe look. Chevron is having a major modern moment as it’s a contemporary way to incorporate lines and stripes into your wardrobe. Tropical prints mixed with stripes elevates the transition from harsh winter to spring.

Orange + Indigo = Match made in … Morocco?

Complementing orange and indigo channels the tribal vibe of the season. Bold colours and earthy tones are paired to create a contrasting equilibrium on the body, and if you’re shy to wear bright orange, a terracotta colour will work beautifully.

Fine Arts student, Blake Wilson, incorporates colours of the season in his grunge fashion aesthetic. Follow him on insta here.

Laura Kenny, one of Blitz's very own editors, channels bright spring hues in her statement boots.

2. Wearing an outfit with no accessories is like sponge-cake with no cream.

Multiple Bags

Don’t be afraid to look like a crazy bag lady this season. It’s all about layering accessories, all the way up to your necklaces. And who doesn’t love an extra compartment or two to put your opal card in? Trust in your inner Western Sydney goddess and rock that chic bum-bag!

Statement earrings

2018 has been all about the statement earring. This season it’s long, jungle leaf danglers in gold! Add that extra glam to your next outfit and watch the compliments flow in. Organic, natural shapes highlight your facial features. More is more.

Collectively this crew have used bags an graphic tees as statement pieces to add character to their outfits. Joel's backpack is from a cotton shirt, Rosie's slouch bag is metallic and Morgan's backpack is all about the right colors for Spring.

3. But is more really more…? Here’s a minimalist approach.

Delicate, tonal sheers

Muted pastels with white peekaboo sheers creates a modern, yet delicate fashion story. Add depth by layering a sheer bomber jacket over a bright, printed shirt, dress or jumpsuit.

Note: As the weather gets warmer, instead of polyester or silk, a lightweight linen can provide the same sheer effect, with more breathability for your body.

Feisty graphic tees

Graphic tees are a staple for the wardrobe. This spring, youth culture is represented through layering with sheer fabrics and using activist messaging to pack punch. Tees are an awesome way to share your voice through fashion.

Med-Science student Cindy Wenceslao wears a black, mesh top underneath her graphic tee and accessories with elegant threader earrings and badges on he jacket.

Her minimalist style makes a subtle fashion statement.

4. Soft Tailoring and Funky Silhouettes

Jumpsuits/Overalls

Studies show that if you look good, you feel good. But if you can’t look good, at least stay comfortable, and it’s easy to do that when you’re wearing a jumpsuit. Jumpsuits are a transeasonal wardrobe piece that require minimal effort for maximum fashion impact.

Palazzo Pants

Flowy pants become sports luxe when paired with a printed bomber jacket, crop top or sneakers. They elongate the silhouette and highlight the waistline. Be bold and layer a sheer dress over them!

Chunky Sneakers

These badboys change the game in terms of comfort. Combined with a spunky sock, your look will shock the eyes of your peers. You’ll be pushing through the bus line with your best foot forward. #sockgamestrong

L-R: Arts students Henrietta Jackson, Violette Kirton and Joel Humphries integrate relaxed tailoring & pops of colour over an all-black colour base. Pops of colour create a minimalist approach coming up to spring whilst staying on-trend for winter. Henriette & Voilette's combo of bright socks and chunky sneakers add to their outfits.
